Impossible Conversations — Valerie Tarico with Seth Andrews and Hector Garcia on The Thinking Atheist

The Thinking Atheist — Impossible(?) Conversations:  The Best and Worst of “Woke Culture” (56 min audio) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYIAhULSnlw

Psychologists Dr. Hector Garcia and Dr. Valerie Tarico join Seth Andrews for a complex, nuanced, and thoughtful conversation about the dying of discourse in a hyper-divided world. When should we speak, and when should we shout? Are we picking the right battles? When should we declare war on awful agents? And are good people sometimes getting an unfair shake? This is a discussion about discussions.

  1. Interesting idea. I read some of the comments and will listen to it tonight. Did any of your thoughts/ideas change because of the discussion?

    • Part of my context here is that I live in Seattle, part of the “Left Coast” of the US, and within Seattle I’m part of a community in which I can’t think of anyone who is right of center. So the corrosive dynamics I’m experiencing and writing about are all within the Left, between folks who are, broadly, pulling in the same direction. Being in conversation with Hector and Seth, I am reminded of what it means to approach these challenges with grace and humility, which they both do beautifully.
